To heal part of you,we need to understand all of you.
The Family OT brings a holistic, client-centered approach to occupational therapy in Asheville and the surrounding area of North Carolina.
We consider the physical, mental, and spiritual aspects of every individual using evidenced based modalities while incorporating compassion and understanding. While we have a passion for helping children and families, The Family OT offers a wide range of services.
Where to start?
Do you have a few questions or concerns about your child and can’t quite figure it out on your own? A consultation may be right for you. We can meet at your home or in the community to discuss your concerns, offer our impressions, and help you determine if further assessment is needed. We will collaborate with you to establish goals and come up with a plan that is best for your family.
Maybe you have done your research and you have a gut feeling that something just isn’t quite right. Would you like someone to take an in-depth look at your child, listen to your concerns, and recommend a one-of-a-kind treatment plan? A 75-minute evaluation is right for you!
Below are the many ways we can help you and your family
Below are the many ways we can help you and your family
Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapists are trained in the physical, emotional, and spiritual aspects of a child. Having this unique skill set allows us to focus on the child as a whole with long lasting results.
Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapy
Pediatric Pelvic Floor OT is a non-invasive, evidenced-based approach that can be very effective in helping your child gain control and independence with bowel and bladder function.
Sensory Integration
Did you know we have 8 senses? This approach to SI therapy is not to “fix” or “normalize” your child. We strive to nurture these characteristics and provide outlets and ways for your child to feel comfortable and confident about who they are.
Feeding Therapy
Is your child a picky eater? Have you been told they will grow out of it? While this may be true, proper nutrition is essential for your child’s body to feel good. We use a fun, semi-structured approach to feeding therapy to allow your child to WANT to try and eat new foods.
Biofeedback Pelvic Floor Therapy (Pediatrics and Adults)
Have you been told you need to see a pelvic floor therapist and that internal work may be involved? Have you suffered from trauma and not ready for internal work? Biofeedback is a great evidenced based modality used to treat a variety of Women’s Health and Pediatric concerns using a sensor placed externally on the muscles of the pelvic floor.
Family Education
Do you feel you just need some advice or a plan so you can help your child on your own? Have you been doing everything you know to do for years and need some more suggestions from a specialized clinician? Family and patient educations is ALWAYS included with ALL services. If you’re not ready to commit to weekly therapy and feel you would like to be trained on how you can help your child this option may be right for you.
Happy clients saying happy things
“We had the opportunity to work with Kayla for two years and in that time we often referred to her as our Brigid whisperer. Within the first few weeks it was clear that Kayla had a gift for working with kids combined with the ability to meet our girl where she was and create OT sessions accordingly. One of the things I deeply appreciate about Kayla’s approach is that she puts the relationship between her and her client at the center of what they are working to accomplish together. That relationship was invaluable to us and to our girl; Kayla was a safe space for our girl and our girl often talked about things that mattered deeply to her with Kayla. This allowed Kayla to tailor her sessions to our girl’s needs and still maintain the path necessary to achieve specific OT goals.”
