What is occupational therapy?
Occupational therapy supports people in participating in the meaningful activities of daily life—also known as occupations. Using a holistic, trauma-informed lens, occupational therapists consider physical, emotional, cognitive, sensory, relational, and environmental factors that influence how a person functions and engages in their world.
What is a child’s occupation?
A child’s occupations change with age and development. Play is a primary occupation, along with learning, self-care, social connection, movement, and participation in family and community life. Pediatric occupational therapy supports children in engaging in these activities in ways that feel accessible, supportive, and aligned with who they are.
What is pediatric pelvic floor occupational therapy?
Pediatric pelvic floor occupational therapy is a non-invasive, evidence-based service that supports children with bowel and bladder differences. Care focuses on body awareness, coordination, routines, and nervous system regulation to support independence and confidence, without shame or pressure.
Do you treat adults for pelvic floor therapy?
Yes. Adult pelvic floor care at The Family OT uses external biofeedback combined with somatic and nervous system–informed approaches. This work often overlaps with adult sensory wellness or somatic-based care and is especially supportive for individuals who prefer non-internal, trauma-informed options.
What is sensory integration?
Sensory integration is an occupational therapy approach that supports how the nervous system processes and responds to sensory input, including touch, movement, balance, and body awareness. At The Family OT, sensory integration is not about fixing or normalizing behavior, but about supporting self-understanding, regulation, and participation in daily life for children and adults.
Do you accept insurance?
We are currently credentialed with NC Medicaid, Healthy Blue, Wellcare, AmeriHealth, UnitedHealthcare (UHC of NC), BCBS, Cigna, MedCost, and Aetna. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm benefits for occupational therapy services.
If you do not take my insurance, what are the self-pay rates?
The initial evaluation is $180, and follow-up visits are $145. We offer self-pay packages with an 8-week commitment and are happy to discuss options to help find a fee structure that feels manageable for you or your family.
Where do services take place?
Most services take place in our clinic, which is designed to support sensory safety and regulation. Limited home-based, daycare, or school-based services may be available depending on location and clinical need. Telehealth is also offered for select services and situations.
