Whole as you are. Supported as you need.

The Family OT provides holistic, client-centered occupational therapy in Asheville and Western North Carolina.

We honor the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of each individual, recognizing neurodiversity as a natural and valuable part of human experience. Our approach blends evidence-based practice with deep respect for each person’s autonomy, strengths, and nervous system.

While children and families are at the heart of our work, we offer a wide range of services for people of all ages.

Where to start?

If you’re noticing differences in regulation, sensory processing, daily routines, or participation—and you’re wondering what kind of support might be helpful—you don’t have to figure it out alone.

At The Family OT, we support children, teens, and adults through a collaborative, strengths-based process that honors each person’s nervous system, lived experience, and goals.

15-Minute Phone Consultation

A 15-minute phone consultation is a supportive first step if you have questions
and want guidance before deciding on next steps.

This brief conversation offers space to:

  • Share what you’re noticing or experiencing (for yourself or your child)
  • Ask questions about occupational therapy and our approach
  • Receive initial clinical impressions through a neurodivergent-affirming lens
  • Explore next steps, including whether a full evaluation or other services may be a good fit

There is no pressure to move forward. The goal is clarity, connection, and informed choice.

Evaluation

If you’re ready for a deeper understanding and more structured support, a comprehensive evaluation may be the right fit.

Evaluations are individualized and relationship-centered. We take time to understand how a person’s nervous system, sensory processing, routines, and environments interact. Lived experience, autonomy, and safety guide the process.

The outcome is a personalized, strengths-based plan that supports access, regulation, and meaningful participation in daily life—created in partnership with you and grounded in who you already are.

Below are the many ways we can help you and your family

Below are the many ways we can help you and your family

Pediatric Occupational Therapy (Birth–Adolescence)

We support children from birth through adolescence using a holistic, strengths-based approach that honors each child’s unique nervous system. Pediatric OT may address sensory processing, regulation, feeding, toileting, play, daily routines, and developmental support, including Birth–3 services.

Pediatric Pelvic Floor Occupational Therapy

Pediatric pelvic floor OT is a non-invasive, evidence-based service that supports children with bowel and bladder challenges. Our work focuses on body awareness, coordination, routines, and nervous system regulation—always paced, respectful, and external.

Sensory Integration

Sensory integration services support understanding and regulating sensory experiences rather than fixing or normalizing behavior. We help individuals identify their sensory needs and build confidence, comfort, and access in daily life.

Adult Sensory Wellness

Adult sensory wellness supports neurodivergent adults and highly sensitive individuals seeking greater nervous system regulation and sustainability. This service may include sensory awareness, embodiment, routine support, and strategies for work, daily life, and burnout prevention.

Family Education

Education is a core part of all services at The Family OT. Family education offers guidance, coaching, and practical strategies so caregivers and individuals feel confident supporting nervous systems and daily participation outside of therapy sessions.

Happy clients saying happy things

Happy clients, kind words

“We had the opportunity to work with Kayla for two years and in that time we often referred to her as our Brigid whisperer. Within the first few weeks it was clear that Kayla had a gift for working with kids combined with the ability to meet our girl where she was and create OT sessions accordingly. One of the things I deeply appreciate about Kayla’s approach is that she puts the relationship between her and her client at the center of what they are working to accomplish together. That relationship was invaluable to us and to our girl; Kayla was a safe space for our girl and our girl often talked about things that mattered deeply to her with Kayla. This allowed Kayla to tailor her sessions to our girl’s needs and still maintain the path necessary to achieve specific OT goals.”
